The key is to find combinations with complementary tasting notes that don’t overpower each other.
Classic
La Gloria Cubana Classic is a medium-bodied cigar known for its rich notes of chocolate, leather, earth, and citrus. To bring out the sweet, fruity taste of the cigar, we recommend pairing this iconic blend with a lighter bourbon featuring subtly sweet and toasted notes. A few great options include Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Jim Beam Kentucky Straight Bourbon, and Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon.
Esteli
Our Esteli blend pairs well with smooth yet strong bourbons that enhance its rich notes of spice, cedar, and coffee. To intensify the spice, we recommend reaching for Wild Turkey 101, but if you’re looking for a sweeter experience, a bottle of Maker’s Mark will bring out the subtle sweetness of coffee.
Serie R
Serie R’s powerful yet refined blend requires a fine bourbon that elevates its earthy spice while simultaneously bringing out the floral, sweet notes. Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage is an excellent choice, but if you want to elevate the experience (and the price tag), Eagle Rare and Blanton’s Original Single Barrel are both exceptional pairings.
Spanish Press
This box-pressed beauty is the ideal mix of earth, sweet, and spice. While we recognize rye and bourbon are not the same thing, rye whiskey is Spanish Press’ perfect companion because it deepens the earthy, nutty notes and complements its slightly sweet finish. We recommend a rye whiskey from Woodford Reserve or High West.
Serie S
Serie S is known for its full notes of earth, leather, and spice, but the rich Mexican San Andrés wrapper also delivers a touch of sweetness. To intensify the spicy, sweet notes and add smokiness, you’ll want to search for Bulleit Bourbon, Booker’s Bourbon, and Aberfeldy 12 Year Old single malt whiskey.
